Finally….Sophie’s Universe is on my hook
I’m sure everyone who is passionate about crochet has Sophie’s Universe on their to do list. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do forever. At first I didn’t think I would be able to do something so complex and so beautiful, but as I slowly gained the confidence I found myself in a state of uncertainty about the colour scheme to choose. When I saw the blanket in a single colour I fell in love with it…then I couldn’t decide what colour or which yarn would be worthy of such a creation.
My dearest friend Nellie Hunter made me an offer that was simply too good to pass up. Nellie was visiting her family in the UK and offered to bring me back yarn…the decision was obvious – the kit for Sophie’s Universe. I chose Softfun because I quite liked the feminine colours. It is really not a colour scheme I would usually go for, but I just had a feeling this was the one. Who would have thought that almost a year later I would be making this blanket for my baby girl.
So why has it taken me so long to get started. To be honest I was a little intimidated….ok a lot intimidated. I had this bag full of gorgeous expensive yarn that I actually wanted to keep untouched. It’s just so pretty to look at. When I browsed through Dedri’s book – I decided it was time. A beautiful project made in "beautiful yarn that is an absolute pleasure to work with"… I agree with Dedri on this. What makes my Sophie’s Universe journey even more special is that it is being for a very special little person whom I cannot wait to wrap up in this beautiful blanket.
Chris Jones Boyd once told me that Sophie’s Universe is a journey to be enjoyed – not a race, but I must admit I’m finding it hard to pace myself.
