Celebray-Shawl

This pattern requires two colours, however, will work just as well with a single or many colours. It is a simple pattern and can be customised to suit you. I received my yarn from the Knotty Habit Sock Klub 2021 and the yarn was too beautiful for just me to admire and be hidden inside my shoe, so I decided to make a one skein shawl using the yarn for the cuffs, heels and toes to add a pop of colour on the edge and random stripes on the shawl. I’ve included all the details for when I used the contrast colour and main colour, but you can amend the pattern to suit you and your choice of yarn.
Please remember the following rule when changing from one colour to the next – you must make sure that your working yarn traps the colour you are not working with to prevent holes from forming.
Your icord edge should look the same on both sides of your work. If you have a tendency to knit tightly, you may find that your icord edge may be a little tight and not lie flat, therefore after every few rows, tug the icord edge gently to even out and ensure that no puckering occurs.

Row 3: MC – K1, KFB, K1, yf, sl3 purlwise (7 sts).
Row 4: CC- K3 (note that your yarn has to span the length of 3 sts before its is worked, therefore you should have a loose float at the back to avoid a tight icord edge), MC, K1, K2tog, KFB in next st, K1 (7 sts).

Row 6: CC – K3, MC – K1, K2tog, KFB in next st, K1 (8 sts).

Row 2 (WS): K1, KFB, K to last 3 sts yf, sl3 purlwise (73 sts).
Panel 3 – Eyelet Stitch Pattern
This panel is a simple eyelet stitch pattern and worked over 4 rows as below. Note that the right side is now your odd numbered rows.
Here’s a little tip – you will always start the Eyelet Stitch Pattern on the RS and with an odd number of stitches.
Row 1 (RS): CC – K3, MC – K1, K2tog, K1 to last 2 sts, KFB in next st, K1 (73 sts).
Row 2 (WS): MC – K1, KFB, K to end of MC/ last 3 sts yf, sl3 purlwise (74 sts).
Row 3: CC – K3, MC – K1, K2tog, K1 to last 2 sts, KFB in next st, K1 (74 sts).
Row 4 (WS): MC – K1, KFB, K1, (yo, K2tog) to end of MC/ last 3 sts yf, sl3 purlwise (75 sts).
Repeat Rows 1 to 4 four (4) more times (83 sts).
Panel 4 – Garter Stitch in CC only
The next two rows form Panel 4 and are worked in CC only.
Row 1 (RS): K4, K2tog, K to last 2 sts, KFB in next st, K1 (83 sts)
Row 2 (WS): K1, KFB, K to last 3 sts yf, sl3 purlwise (84 sts).
Panel 5 – Garter Stitch
Row 1 (RS): CC – K3, MC – K1, K2tog, K to last 2 sts, KFB in next st, K1 (84 sts).
Row 2 (WS): MC – K1, KFB, K to end of MC/ last 3 sts yf, sl3 purlwise (85 sts) Repeat Rows 1 and 2 six (6) more times (91 sts).
Panel 6 – Garter Stitch in CC only
The next two rows form Panel 6 and are worked in CC only. This is optional and you could simply knit this as for Panel 5. I wanted to make maximum use of the yarn I had, and just have a pop of the contrast colour.
Row 1 (RS): K4, K2tog, K to last 2 sts, KFB in next st, K1 (91 sts)
Row 2 (WS): K1, KFB, K to last 3 sts yf, sl3 purlwise (92 sts).
Panel 7– Garter Stitch
Work as for Panel 5, except you repeat Rows 1 and 2 seven (7) more times (100sts).
Panel 8 – Garter Stitch in CC only
Work as for Panel 4, i.e 2 rows in CC (101) sts.
Pattern repeat
Now repeat from Panel 3 to Panel 8 (i.e. eyelet stitch panel, CC garter stitch, garter st, CC garter st, garter st, CC garter st) once (127 sts).
Finishing off
The next and final panel is only the eyelet stitch pattern. Work Rows 1 to 4 (from Panel 4) a total of 8 times.
Now working only in the CC.
Row 1 (RS): K4, K2tog, K1 to last 2 sts, KFB in next st, K1 (143 sts).
Row 2 (WS): K1, KFB, K to last 3 sts yf, sl3 purlwise (144 sts).
Row 3: K4, K2tog, K1 to last 2 sts, KFB in next st, K1 (144 sts).
Row 4 (WS): K1, KFB, K to end of MC/ last 3 sts yf, sl3 purlwise (145 sts).
Repeat Rows 1 to 4 one (1) more time (147 sts).
Work Rows 1 and 2 once (148 sts).
Icord bind off
With RS facing, cast on 3 sts using whichever method you prefer – I used the cable cast on.
*K2, sl1, K1, psso – there will now be 3 sts on your right needle. Slide these 3 sts back to the left needle*
Repeat from * to * until you have 3 sts remaining, slide these sts onto the left needle and K3tog. Cut yarn, pull through the last stitch and fasten off.
Weave away all your ends and enjoy wearing your Celebray-Shawl.
