I’m catching up to 2023
It’s rather late in the year to say Happy New Year, but here I am with the first post of 2023. I always have visions of being able to connect and tell you all about the wonderful things I get up to, but the past 3 months have been a bit of a blur for me. December was super busy for me as I tried to pack up almost 9 years of my life into boxes. We hired a moving company to help with the furniture and beds and decided we could easily move the boxes ourselves….well, we may still have a few boxes to bring over from our old house and I still have a few boxes to unpack in the new house.
Let me tell you a little about my new home. We bought a house that was being converted into a school. Typical Roger and I could only see the potential the house has, and we looked beyond the urinals and stalls in the bathrooms and imagined a walk-in closet and showers. The beautiful grass in the front yard looked like a golfing green and we saw the kids running and playing, and then there was every man’s dreams of 3 garages, so of course this was the house for us. It is far from finished, but it is livable and comfortable, and we are absolutely in love with it. We may not have a conventional kitchen – it’s something I put together with desks and shelves, but it’s comfortable. We sit around our 4-seater table and have the best conversations as we plan for all the things we would like to see and have done. The kids are really happy at their new school, which is the real reason why we moved, and with the high school across the road from the primary school, it looks like we will be here a really long time…well we better be, because I certainly don’t want to have to pack boxes again. We are also renovating the cottage for my mum. We moved her from Durban last year and she spends time between my siblings and myself.
I am so very blessed with a beautiful craft room/home office with lots of space and cupboards for all my treasures. One day soon, I will go through objectively and destash, but for now everything gives me joy because I can see the potential it has or can imagine the finished project.
I haven’t been great health wise and am still struggling with sore hands, but I try to keep them busy because my greatest fear is they will freeze, and I may not be able to work on my many projects. I have a new obsession too…weeds! They are the bane of my existence and I try to spend at least 30 minutes a day in the garden. It’s been so therapeutic for me. I manage to listen to my audio book whilst pulling out all those pesky unwanted invasive plants.
So, exciting news, we drilled a borehole this week and we have water, there is still lots of work to be done before we can be off the municipal supply, but we will get there slowly. The next step is to go solar, but one slow, very slow step at a time. Everything these days costs an arm and a leg, and one just has to learn to be very patient, and as it is said “Good things come to those who wait”.
This year I test knitted two projects. One was matching headbands for Atalia and myself, which I shared both on Facebook and Instagram. The second is an infinity cowl, which I can’t share yet, but am super eager to. My current work in progress is a top down raglan colourwork sweater. I’m using the new elle Merino DK. So far I am loving it, but will be able to give better feedback when I am done and washed the sweater. The deadline for completion is 21 March. I think I will definitely be done by then. For now some random pics below.

Well, that’s me for now, its weekend, and I hope you have some crafty plans. Until next time, Create, Craft and Inspire!
Best wishes
